艾麗絲華妲的成名作《從五時到七時的琪奧》被認為表現女性主義立場,其後的《幸福》卻引來爭議,有人以為在維護父權,有人則認為是對父權的批判。開場一家四口在向日葵盛放的郊外牽手漫步,是否就等於幸福?木匠丈夫過着看來美滿的婚姻生活,裁縫妻子溫柔賢淑,他卻同時愛上了個性獨立的情人。華妲沒有急於為男子的不忠作道德批評,反而以油畫般的色彩、夢幻般的畫面,以及富暗示的剪接,還有莫札特的樂曲,把殘酷與冷峻藏於溫暖的幸福表象下。她更找來真實的一家四口參與演出,模糊虛構與真實的界線,邀請觀眾思考幸福何在。

Agnès Varda’s first well-known work Cleo from 5 to 7 is considered taking a clear feminist stand. Happiness is more controversial: while some believe it criticizes patriarchy, others think it defends it. Is the family happy when they are holding hands and strolling in the sunflower field? The carpenter may seem to have a fulfilling marriage with his virtuous wife, but he is also in love with an independent lover. Varda does not hurry to comment on the husband’s infidelity but conceals the cold harsh reality in the poetic colors and images and Mozart’s music. In order to blur the boundary between fiction and reality, it is a family of four in real life playing in the film. She invites the audience to search for happiness with her.

艾麗絲華妲

在沒有學習過任何電影製作的情況下,華妲在1954年自編自導了第一部長片《短角情事》,開展了一直持續至今的創作生涯。 華妲是個充滿人文關懷的導演,作品很多時亦強調某些社會議題或關注一些在社會中被視為「不入流」的人。透過揉合虛構和紀錄現實的方法、對影像的敏銳捕捉,在視覺影像上描繪了多幅真摰動人的場景,獲譽為「法國新浪潮之母」。

Agnès Varda

Varda had no experience behind the camera when she began directing her first film La Pointe Courte in 1954, and since then, she continues to create. Social commentary can often be found in Varda’s work, and she loves to depict people who have chosen to live the margins or have been rejected there. Blending fiction and documentary, Varda has created a remarkable body of films that insightfully dance between the traditional categories of fiction and non-fiction, cinema and photography. She was known as the ‘Grandmother of the French New Wave’.
